Laboratory Assistant and behind the scenes hero with a passion for cooking
I originally come from Sri Lanka where I used to work as a teacher before moving to Sweden to pursue a master’s degree in molecular biology. Growing up, I was always curious about the world around me. Science provided clear, logical explanations for the questions I had. Watching documentaries about nature and universe as a child deepened my interest and inspired me to explore science even further. After completing my degree, I’ve transitioned into research and development as a Laboratory Assistant at Fluicell. As a person, I’m passionate about learning and growth, which makes being in R&D an excellent fit for me.
Ensuring a smooth and efficient research process is foundational for all lab work
In my role as a Laboratory Assistant at Fluicell, I am responsible for maintaining cell cultures, preparing samples for experiments, and supporting key research projects through microscopy imaging and assays. You could say that I act as a babysitter for all our cells.
I also take on small internal projects and ensure that the lab remains clean, organized, and efficient. Overall, my role is to support the research team and help keep daily operations running smoothly. I love being part of the research process and supporting others in their scientific work. It’s rewarding to know that I’m contributing to something meaningful.
What truly sets Fluicell apart is the team—it feels less like a company and more like a family. Even though it’s a small team, its diversity and multicultural background create the feeling of a much larger, global environment.
Adapting to any challenge
I draw inspiration from the people around me because everyone has unique strengths and perspectives. I enjoy learning from the best qualities in each person, which helps me grow both personally and professionally.
I’d say my biggest strengths are being reliable and committed—I always make sure to do my best. I’m also pretty adaptable and can adjust easily to new situations or environments. I’m comfortable communicating and working with people from different backgrounds, which helps me work well in diverse teams.
I am immensely proud of having moved to Sweden, completing my master’s degree, learning a new language, and adapting to a completely new environment. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I believe having the resilience and determination to overcome the challenges along the way has allowed me to grow as a person.
A love for cooking
When I’m not doing science, I love spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking. I enjoy experimenting with new dishes and flavors. My love for cooking really began with my mom, who is an amazing cook. She gave me the freedom to experiment in the kitchen, which gave me the confidence to try new things. I started by trying out pudding and cake recipes I found online and in cookbooks, and over time, my mom began teaching me how to cook traditional Sri Lankan dishes. I’ve also learned a lot from watching cooking shows, and I enjoy blending in elements from other cuisines to give local recipes a unique twist. Sharing my food with others and seeing them enjoy it is incredibly rewarding, and it’s a great way for me to relax and recharge.
